Carla Gonzalez is a fourth-generation Mexican American from Chillicothe, Illinois. She earned her doctoral degree in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies from the University of Iowa with a focus on the history of minority and ethnic populations. Her research is on historical perspectives of Chicano and Mexican American identity in the Midwest and Chicano higher educational experiences during the Chicano Movement. She currently is a literacy specialist at Dougherty Family College within the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
