Mell Rivera Díaz is a scholar and poet whose work inhabits the intersection of Puerto Rican Studies, Black Studies, and Diaspora Studies, exploring poetry, music, and the cultural politics of race. They hold a Ph.D. in Spanish & Portuguese from the University of California, Irvine, where their research focused on the ideology of mestizaje from the early 20th century to the present, with a particular emphasis on Puerto Rican poetry across Spanish, English, and Spanglish.
